As you may have realized, we cannot wait for summer! The world of cinema comes alive with some of the most anticipated summer movies of the year as the weather becomes warm and bright. This year is no different as the film production house juggernauts give us a taste of what to expect in the coming months. We have handpicked some of the most exciting movie trailers that are currently creating a massive buzz on YouTube. We can only hope the final product is as good as the trailer. With our fingers crossed, lets dive into the best movie trailers of 2023!

1. The Flash

Release Date – June 16th 2023

Director         – Andy Muschietti                                              

Stars               – Ezra Miller (Barry Allen / The Flash), Ben Affleck (Batman / Bruce Wayne), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Michael Keaton (Batman / Bruce Wayne)

                           

Plot                                                   

The Flash movie will adopt the 2011 “Flashpoint Paradox” event from the DC universe. In which Barry Allen (The Flash) uses a cosmic treadmill to go back in time to stop the murder of his mother Nora Allen. This very act changes the timeline and shatters the space time continuum changing the past, present and future. As the trailer shows this movie will re-introduce Michael Keaton’s Batman from the 1989 Tim Burton film. The other characters shown in the trailer such as General Zod and Ben Affleck as Batman will add to the DC multiverse mashup, pretty much like Marvels “Spiderman No Way Home.”

2. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Release Date – June 30, 2023

Director        – James Mangold

Stars           – Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Helena), Mads Mikkelsen (Jürgen Voller), Antonio Banderas (Renaldo)

Plot

Indiana Jones returns for the fifth instalment of the legendary movie franchise spanning over 4 decades. In this latest instalment Indiana Jones is approaching retirement in a world that seems far away from the one he knew. The ones vanquished Nazi threat has risen its ugly head again and it’s up to our aging hero to save the world one more time before he passes on his whip to a young and worthy apprentice.

3. Oppenheimer

Release Date – July 21, 2023

Director        – Christopher Nolan

Stars            – Cillian Murphy (J. Robert Oppenheimer), Emily Blunt (Kitty Oppenheimer), Matt Damon (Leslie Groves Jr.), Robert Downey Jr. (Lewis Strauss)

Plot

The film follows the man known to be the “Father of the atomic bomb” J. Robert Oppenheimer. He was an American theoretical physicist during World War 2 that was involved with the highly controversial “Manhattan Project”. This was a research and development project during the war that was experimenting with the weaponization of nuclear technology for the first time. The movie will tackle one of the greatest threats to the existence of all mankind and the destructive potential of nuclear weapons.

4. The Little Mermaid

Release Date – May 26, 2023

Director        – Rob Marshall

Stars           – Halle Bailey (Ariel), Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula)

Plot

The 1837 fairytale novel by Hans Christian Andersen takes a modern twist in the latest version of “The Little Mermaid”. Ariel is a princess of the underwater kingdom of Atlantica and always been curios about the human world above the water. She rescues Prince Eric from a ship wrecked by a turbulent storm and falls in love with him. Her blind love will lead her down a dark path as a conniving sea witch named Ursula promises to give her human legs in trade for her hypnotic voice. This will spark a controversial relationship that will jeopardise her safety and the ones she loves the most.

5. Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse

Release Date – June 2, 2023

Director        – Joaquim Dos Santos

Stars           – Shameik Moore (Miles Morales), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy), Oscar Isaac (Miguel O’Hara)

Plot

After the hugely successful “Spider Man – Into the Spider Verse” the much-awaited sequel will grace the cinemas this summer. The movie follows Miles Morales who is coaxed by Gwen Stacy to save the spider verse by a new destructive villain named “The Spot.” His ability to teleport across the multiverse is wreaking havoc on each universe. Miles soon discovers a group of Spider people known as the Spider society that has their own way of tackling this threat.

6. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1

Release Date – June 2, 2023

Director        – Joaquim Dos Santos

Stars           – Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt), Rebecca Ferguson (Ilsa Faust), Indira Varma

Plot

Tom Cruise repises his role for the 7th time as special agent Ethen Hunt of the Impossible Mission Force. Very little details are given out about the film prior to its release but we do know that the movie is broken into 2 parts, with the 2nd movie set to be released in 2024. Dead reckoning means you’re picking a course of action based exclusively on your last known situation and that becomes quite the metaphor for this movie and its characters. Expect unbelievable stunts, high adrenalin action sequences and Tom Cruise putting his life on the line (literally) for your entertainment.
